MEDICINE OF OLD AGE & STROKE MEDICINE
A regular clinic is held at St Saviour’s Hospital in Hythe. The clinic caters for a wide range of problems pertaining to old age and stroke, from making a diagnosis to managing complications following from the diagnosis or issues around rehabilitation. Common problems include Stroke, Falls, Funny Turns and Memory Loss.

 

ORO PHARYNGEAL DYSPHAGIA

Swallowing problems are common and may be indicate a medical problem. It is not normal or part of getting old to cough and choke on food. A monthly swallowing clinic is being developed at St Saviour’s Hospital, to provide a service to determine the cause of some one’s difficulty swallowing. A consultant with experience in swallowing problems and a speech and language therapist are in attendance.

HOME VISITS
If you are unable to attend the clinic then it is possible to arrange to see people at their home.

 

VISITS TO CARE HOMES
Many vulnerable people live in care settings. Dr Smithard has experience of supporting Care Homes in looking after older people. Reviewing people to reduce hospital admission and also to assist in Medication reviews.

 

ADMISSIONS
Admissions can be arranged to St Saviour’s Hospital in Hythe if required for treatment or investigation.
